Liberian Community Association of New York City, Inc.
The Liberian Community Association of New York City (LICANY) was founded in June 1985 and has a 501(C) status. The inception of LICANY was predicated on the breakdown of ULAA’s New York Chapter during the presidential election of ULAA in 1984. The candidates of that election were; Mr. Abraham Yane and Mr. Lawrence Santy both were from New York chapter.
The funeral service for the late Leona Kofa
The funeral service for the late Leona Kofa, former wife of a Council Member of the Liberian Community Association of New York City (LICANY), was held today at Salem United Methodist Church, 7th Avenue & 129th Street, Harlem, New York.
The solemn service brought together a broad cross-section of Liberians from different walks of life, including current and former leaders of LICANY, members of the Millennium Men of Liberia, bereaved family members, sympathizers, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to pay their final respects.

The Liberian Community Association joins the Sackar and Collins families, friends, community leaders, and members of the Liberian community in mourning the passing of Benedict Sackar, grandson of the late Mrs.
Charity Cooper Collins and her husband, Mr. Emmanuel Collins.
Benedict was laid to rest today at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey, the same cemetery where his late grandmother, Mrs. Charity Cooper Collins, was previously laid to rest.

LICANY promotes multiculturalism as fundamental in defining what it means to be Americans in the modern time and to address issues of concern for Liberians, while recognizing and celebrating efforts that have been made by many African Americans to settle in and contribute in various ways to this society.

African communities make up a large proportion of migrants in the United State, and we realized with a steady influx of people from countries in Africa like Liberia, Sudan, Somalia, Congo and Burundi, the population would continue to grow.
